Today is the first day of Fall, which mean 10 years ago this past Thursday, On September 22, 2001, I sat on the front porch of the hotel watching buckets of rain fall from the sky, as my husband to be (an my partner for the past 7 years) made trips back and forth to the the local ferries, picking up seasick guests and family members, who had traveled to Block Island, 10 days after 9/11, to be with us, in the monsoon, to celebrate our nuptial. I wasn't worried, I was right where I wanted to be, with everyone that I wanted with me, about to marry my best friend. It's hard for me to believe it was 10 years ago. We aren't the big celebration type, we are happy enough knowing that our love for each other, is exactly as it was on that day, if not stronger. We don't need fancy gifts or parties or trips. We are happy to know that we have a place to come home to, with dogs that welcome us every time, and a house that is our own (and a interest rate that just dropped, with a brand new refinance). There was flowers, and cards and a tiny butter cream cake. We will go, as we do every year, to dinner at the Sayville Inn, and to celebrate, we will spend the day today listening to our favorite local music and next Sunday, together, strolling the best street fair ever, and my heart will be filled, knowing that this man, that I married 10 years ago, still loves me. Happy Anniversary Honey, my life is perfect, because of you.
