It's so weird to me how the older i get the more things remind me of when i was young. Is that because there are so many more things to remember?? Who knows, all i know is that for the past few days i've been surrounded by sights, smells (especially) and even sounds that brought me right back to my mom's basement. I can remember coming home on Halloween, completely dressed as a bum, eyeliner mustache, my little sister, her platinum hair sticking out from beneath an old derby that probably belonged to my grandfather, the same mustache looking completely ridiculous on her pint sized body (as if mine looked completely normal?!?!). We would empty our pillows cases, full of candy onto the basement floor, trading Smarties for Charleston Chews, and the smell that would drift upward smelled of heaven. As i hurried around the Target yesterday, scooping up what was left of the Halloween candy (and believe me, there wasn't much), I started to think how different Halloween is these days, so over done. As i poured the bags of candy into the big bowl that was waiting on the dining room table, that same smell of heaven came drifting up. There's a picture of us in those bum outfits, somewhere, and I'm determined to find it, but as I was digging through the box of polaroids another smell hit me. Oh, how I loved those old Polaroids, the washed out look, the smell of chemicals on my hands, even after all these years that smell was still there. So, for all of you who love the Polaroid, but don't want to get invested in the antique-EBay market, here's two new choices to record this years Halloween bums in your family. First, there's this great new camera, which is sure to please, it's already on my Birthday/Christmas list (did i say the C word??) and for those of you too young to remember the Polaroid, who just want to play, I love, love, LOVE, Rollip . So, Happy Halloween everyone, make your own sweet memories!!!
